“Twenty-three years and YuvaLok Foundation continues in its service of “Investing in Lives”, being child centered, youth centered and community centered. Our focus being children and youth who are less privileged, those who are on the streets, the rural poor, the tribal children having no access to academic prospects, giving them hope and an opportunity. We believe that education is the most effective tool which helps children build a strong foundation, enabling them to free themselves from the vicious cycle of ignorance, poverty and disease.
YuvaLok’s journey has been one where we’ve crossed many hurdles, shared many smiles, wiped away many tears and stood our ground with pride in molding and building up young citizens for a better tomorrow.
In the heart of the city of Bangalore and in rural India – this is where YuvaLok has made a difference and continues to do so through physical, mental and spiritual rejuvenation at our YuvaLok Schools –
- YuvaLok High School Hennur
- 4 YuvaLok Schools In Chamrajnagar
- YuvaLok School In Kamagere
- Two Tribal Schools
- Mankulam, Iddukki, Kerala
- Chamrajnagar near Mysore
At our schools we focus on a holistic approach catering to a child’s intellectual, emotional, social, physical, creative and spiritual potential.
Post the morning assembly the children are given a glass of “9 grain” organic porridge to stimulate their activeness and attention in class. Many children come to school even without breakfast and this 150ml of porridge keeps them going till lunch and after the morning session they are given a hot nutritious fortified meal. This intervention takes care of the 2/3rd daily requirement of nutritional needs which keeps the child healthy and able to concentrate through the six hours the child is in our care each day. Safe drinking water and clean toilets add to the health and hygiene of the child.
Need based experiential teaching develops the curiosity in our children and boosts their keenness to studies. Home environments are never conducive to do their homework. After all, children in the lower classes would prefer not to have homework. YuvaLok uses differential pedagogy methods to impart education without homework which makes learning fun.
YuvaLok High School, Hennur
At present YuvaLok schools are well equipped with all the facilities with 410 children at Hennur and 200 at Kannur. They are nurtured and instilled with values, integrity, compassion and respect which pave the way to success. Change is inevitable in the field of education and so our dedicated teachers attend training programs to improve their personal and professional skills.
In the 2014 April exams we had 80% results, 10 of them scoring first class, the topper Kanchan with 80% . At YuvaLok High School, Hennur, this year has seen the 8th batch of standard X students graduating while the present X std with 39 students are working very hard and moving forward with great expectations.
At YuvaLok Schools, emphasis is laid on Leadership. Students undergo additional training in the area of leadership which also builds their self-worth and self-esteem. We are grateful to Ms. Eleena and Ms. Anita of Bethesda, Bangalore for volunteering their services twice a week to impart this training.
Higher Education Support
YuvaLok Foundation’s commitment to see transformation has to walk that extra mile with our students who successfully pass out of Standard X. Knowing that they lack resources to pay up college fees, YuvaLok set up a Higher Education Fund in 2007 when our first batch of Standard X students graduated. 8 years later many have passed out of colleges and professional courses while each year many pursue higher education. This fund which is predominantly supported by Mr. Gerard Meester of Netherlands, enables students to seek 50% of their annual fees.
