YuvaLok runs Vocational Training for girls (Tailoring
for 18 months) called “Threads of Life”
and for boys (Carpentry for 24 months).
As more and more avenues open up for teenagers around
the world, YuvaLok felt the urge to teach our teenagers
who have dropped out of various schools or for those
sitting idle, discipline and good manners - along
with a vocation - to survive in the fast growing world
and to become useful citizens who contribute positively
to the community. In the last academic year, we started
Vocational Training in Carpentry, for young boys.
12 boys have already enrolled for this 2 year course.
In addition to Carpentry, they are being trained in
Screen Printing, Candle making, Making of Handmade
Greeting Cards and Painting. The boys are also taught
basics in Computers, Spoken English and Mathematics.
Four girls were awarded certificate on completion
of the One Year Apprentice course in Tailoring. Apart
from a certificate, they were given a Sewing Machine,
so as to help them start off in life immediately.
These girls who have completed the course have the
option to either join a garment factory (that Yuvlok
has a
tie-up with) or to work from home. Presently sixteen
girls are enrolled in this course. These girls are
also trained in painting, making of hand made greeting
cards and screen printing, apart from basics in Computers,
Spoken English and Mathematics. Recently, some of
our girls made symbolic ribbon loops for REUTERS as
part of a campaign for awareness against Breast Cancer.
Needless to say, despite the lack of ample resources
and the required infrastructure for training, YuvaLok
is utilizing what is available to us to its maximum
utility
